Glasgow to Host Games

 15 November 2007: Glasgow will host the Commonwealth Games for the first time in 2014 after fending off a rival bid by the Nigerian capital Abuja.

The result of the vote - a 47-24 majority of the Commonwealth's 71 member countries - was greeted by huge cheers when it was broadcast on large screens in Glasgow when the announcement was made. More...
